Trust
Have you ever asked
Have you ever asked a high school student what trust means to them? Maybe you're not sure what it means to you. In the social climate our young people find themselves in today, it's important that adults give them something to hold on to.
ALMS began the conversation with the concept of what employers are looking for in a trustworthy employee, and how can a young person make good decisions about trust in their personal and professional life.
In 2024 ALMS explored the questions and provided some answers with the help from the book, "The Speed of Trust" written by Stephen M.R. Covey, with Rebecca R. Merrill. With students from Woodland High School, Pioneer High School and out-of-school youth who registered at Woodland Community College Job Fair, ALMS found that students did not understand the value of why trust might be essential in their business career and personal relationships. In fact, one 19 year old said, "Trust was something I didn't understand and did not give easily."
The 2024 Annual Dinner With the Stars was a celebration of the transformative ALMS program, which has empowered high school and out-of-school youth. With support from the Yolo Youth Commission, this program has been a beacon of hope for approximately 50 Woodland youth, boasting a remarkable 96% perfect attendance!
Discover why "TRUST—It's Essential" has resonated so deeply with our youth and why it's a crucial value for you—the community - to learn more about ways we can all play a part in nurturing America's future leaders.
Our goal is to help youth, ages 15-25, understand and make decisions regarding trust (in a confusing and changing world) through an interactive teaching style. Students often fear who to trust or what employers seek as being trustworthy. The program teaches how to recognize and become trustworthy for your personal and professional future utilizing the book "The Speed of Trust" by Stephen M.R. Covey.
Imagine - the impact of changing the trajectory of just one young person’s life. “We would actually change more than that person because we would change how they choose their spouse, love their children, invest into their community, improve their planet – and maybe save the world.”
