CCHS Students Want More!
Can ALMS Help Prevent Homelessness?
ALMS is thrilled to announce the remarkable success of the Cache Creek High School (CCHS) Job Readiness pilot program, which ran from January to February 2025. With a perfect attendance rate of 100 percent and a 100 percent completion rate over seven lessons, we've achieved something truly special. We've had the privilege of getting to know the students and understanding their aspirations for transitioning into the adult work world. What's even more exciting is that seven out of the ten students will be continuing with ALMS for the second session!
For the first five years, ALMS was an experiment. Now, we have concrete evidence that it works. We receive calls from students who, without our intervention, could have faced homelessness and crime. The consequences of such situations are not easily reversible at this developmental stage. But we are learning how to break the cycle of hopelessness and homelessness, one young person at a time, instilling hope and optimism in their lives.
Over the past ten years, we have encountered numerous young people who have experienced this scenario, and the need for immediate action is clear:
At home they may be faced with:
abuse/addiction/poverty/hopelessness
once they leave home they are faced with:
1) homelessness and poor decisions - causing more abuse from dangerous relationships they are not prepared to deal with;
2) addiction to cope and self-medicate from their choices;
3) poverty due to their inability to become employed;
4) crime, and sex trafficked to survive
5) Anxiety, Depression, Mental Health Issues and Hopelessness.
The young people who have joined our program - some homeless or foster youth - left home for the above reasons, and struggled with the consequences.
Sometimes, it's easier to leave home than live in fear of physical abuse or attempt to lessen the burden on the family due to poverty or abandonment because of addictions. These are real stories that ALMS has witnessed from our youth. With the help of mentors, we have seen restoration and hope for these young people. They now have good jobs, live in homes, and are excelling more than they ever imagined they could.
If you're inspired by our work and want to be part of the solution, we invite you to join ALMS through your donations or by volunteering your time. To gain a deeper understanding of how ALMS goes beyond job readiness and actively works to prevent homelessness, we encourage you to join the conversation with Rotary, ALMS, and 4th & Hope on February 22, from 9 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. This is an opportunity to learn more about our work and how you can contribute to our mission and the fight against homelessness.

Congratulations to the CCHS Students! A job well done.
Imagine - the impact of changing the trajectory of just one young person’s life. “We would actually change more than that person because we would change how they choose their spouse, love their children, invest into their community, improve their planet – and maybe save the world.”
