It's Never too Late

Darrell and Geraldo met at Cache Creek High School in the Fall of 2019, the last school year before COVID-19 hit our shores and shut down everything. In the Spring of 2020, ALMS concluded the "Beyond the Basics" session for our students at the school. The clubhouse was finally open to Woodland youth, and things were looking up.

That was the last time Mentor Darrell saw Geraldo. He lost contact over the pandemic, but Geraldo found ALMS at the clubhouse in the beginning of 2021 after a friend, having stayed in touch with ALMS through her mentor, invited him to join her.

Geraldo worked for his mom at a local Jim Boys for a while but wanted more. He just didn't know what it was. After attending a job readiness refresher course with ALMS and TAB Sunday Lunch with college-age students for mentoring, ALMS encouraged him to apply at the CRIST Group.

He was frightened but pushed through his fears as calls were made on his behalf, and he was guided to "just do it" and trust what he had learned.

Geraldo was surprised when he landed a job in the manufacturing company and started to work at much higher pay, full benefits, and friendly people.

Last week Darrell and Gerald ran into each other at the local car wash. They were excited to see each other, and Geraldo began to explain his story for the last three years.

"I'm doing so well! I'm now learning to use a laser, engraving, and welding! I want to learn it all."

Geraldo has gotten three promotions since starting at CRIST Group and loves what he's doing. He's one more young person who has experienced a trajectory change.

It only takes a tap at the precise time and place of a young person's developmental stage, and it can make all the difference in the world.  Help us change the trajectory of every youth who wants help.

ALMS is making a difference with your help.

Together, we are changing the trajectory of every young person we touch.
