ALMS Volunteer Process

If you are willing to give of yourself and your time, we will honor that gift and provide you with the training and support you need to be successful. We have a few steps to get you started.

Orientation

The orientation class will help you understand our goals and mission as well as how our volunteers participate. At the end of the orientation you will have an understanding of what we do and how you can get involved.

Training

It’s important that you feel confident and supported in your volunteer role. the initial volunteer training will clearly define your task, provide role-play when necessary, allow for discussion and answer all your questions to prepare you for successful interactions with students, staff or the business community.

Ongoing Support

You are never alone as a volunteer. ALMS will provide continued support and training for all volunteers. Whether you return for quarterly training or simply make a call for clarity, ALMS staff will gladly encourage you and provide guidance.

We Make Volunteering Easy!

You can volunteer 2 hours a week, 2 hours a month, or behind the scenes.

No experience needed – we will train you!

Modest Commitment Opportunities

  • Hostess: Meet and greet participants (young people, special guests, etc.) as they come to the meeting – making sure everyone feels wanted, expected and valued before and during weekly meetings – once a week for 2 -3 hours

  • Meeting setup and/or tear down: Setup tables, chairs, arrange room for weekly meeting and put things back, clean up, etc. – once a week (flexible)

  • Catering/Preparing meals for meeting: Within a budget, prepare, deliver and/or serve meals at weekly meetings – servers come early and stay 1 hour once a week

Deeper Commitment Opportunities

  • Mentor: A full description is available on our page, Become a Mentor; however, a mentor is someone who finds a connection with a participant and offers to be a friend, sounding board and perhaps an adviser. It would be a mutual agreement between participant and mentor.

  • Speakers: Training on the subjects we offer in the program (weekly meetings)

  • Small Group Facilitators: Facilitators who sit at the table with participants and facilitate discussion through questions given to them from Professional Staff (weekly meetings)

  • Step Study Facilitators: Volunteers following the subject matter of the weekly meeting and providing participants a more in-depth opportunity to personalize the lesson. This might be someone in the field of the subject matter who can communicate or assist the participant in applying the weekly lesson for themselves.

Behind the Scenes Opportunities

  • Fundraising: Works with Professional Staff and Board to pinpoint and retrieve financial opportunities such as grants, scholarships for students and other forms of funding for ALMS.

  • Community Outreach: Works with Professional Staff as a resource to identify business partnerships, business opportunities for participants (entry-level jobs and internships) and volunteer opportunities for participants to develop skills and gain experience.

  • Administrative: phone calls, research, marketing, graphic design, share your expertise, assist with paperwork, etc.
