Inspiring Our WCC Young Adults
ALMS Celebrates and Expands Services!
ALMS celebrated the conclusion of another successful Speed of Trust program last Tuesday, a transformative journey for the 2024 summer group. These youth, who registered at the Woodland Community College Job Fair held by Yolo Works in June, were not just participants but budding talents with diverse interests. Their ages ranged from 18 to 24, and they were passionate about graphic arts, web design, freelance art, entrepreneurship, and piloting, among other fields.
“I would recommend this program because it made me think of things I didn't know before, which I imagine will help me be more successful in life." Amara, 18 year old student.
In this session, ALMS was inspired to go another step further. Along with helping participants write and improve their resumes, provide mock interviews on film to be reviewed by the student, and shop in the ALMS clothing boutique for casual professional attire, ALMS introduced participants to Rotary to meet other professionals, learn how to network, and understand the importance of community and how to build business relationships. ALMS also invited retired and working professionals to meet one-on-one with youth during the celebration, which included a panel discussion, Q&A, and tributes to the youth, followed by a light meal and root beer floats. The impact of these efforts was evident in the increased confidence and skills of the youth.
Our commitment to these youth extends beyond the conclusion of the program - AND YOU CAN HELP! We will continue to provide support, enabling the young artists to collaborate and learn from each other. We also aim to introduce and promote these young adults to the community. If you are interested in contributing to these ongoing efforts, please contact Jayne Williams at (916) 769-5162. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of these young individuals.
A card:
"Ms. Jayne, I wanted to express my deepest thanks for the encouragement and support." From a recent Job Readiness student. He included chocolates and a candle.

Imagine - the impact of changing the trajectory of just one young person’s life. “We would actually change more than that person because we would change how they choose their spouse, love their children, invest into their community, improve their planet – and maybe save the world.”
